JOB SUMMARY
The Nurse Practitioner - Women’s Health (NPWH) provides high-quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate women’s health care services to OB/GYN patients in accordance with accepted standards of clinical practice. This role includes preventive care, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and health education for patients across the lifespan. The NPWH practices collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team to support the mission of BMS Family Health and Wellness Centers and to meet federal, state, and regulatory standards.

Clinical Care
- Provide comprehensive women’s health services, including health histories, physical examinations, screenings, diagnostic evaluations, vaccinations, treatment, and follow-up care.
- Diagnose and manage acute, chronic, and preventive OB/GYN conditions based on clinical findings and evidence-based guidelines.
- Perform procedures and clinical duties within the approved scope of practice and credentialed privileges.
- Make appropriate referrals to primary care providers, specialists, and ancillary services as clinically indicated.
Documentation & Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate clinical documentation, including closing patient encounters within 48 hours and reviewing/signing laboratory results, reports, and clinical documents in accordance with BMS policies.
- Maintain compliance with Managed Care/HMO requirements, Joint Commission standards, HRSA guidelines, and New York State regulations.
- Participate in regular chart reviews, including Peer Review activities, to support quality assurance and performance improvement.
Care Coordination & Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, medical assistants, and other members of the healthcare team to promote high-quality, coordinated patient care.
- Consult with collaborating physicians as needed regarding patient care to ensure adherence to clinical standards, policies, and objectives.
- Provide clinical coverage at other BMS/BCDC sites as needed in the absence of usual providers.
Quality Improvement & Outreach
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and performance monitoring activities.
- Engage in health fairs, screenings, and community outreach activities as assigned.
- Achieve or exceed projected patient access and productivity goals.
Administrative & Professional Responsibilities
- Adhere to and actively contribute to BMS policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
- Participate in the on-call rotation as required.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).
- Engage in continuous professional development and maintain required licensure, certifications, and continuing education.
- Collaborate regularly with the Assistant Medical Director and Nurse Manager regarding clinical performance, patient outcomes, and team effectiveness.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
- Licensed Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
- National certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.
- At least two years of clinical experience.
- Strong clinical judgment and diagnostic skills in women’s health and OB/GYN care.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Computer literacy.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical documentation systems.
- Commitment to culturally competent, patient-centered care.
- Experience in an FQHC, community health center, or safety-net healthcare organization, preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Clinical setting with direct patient contact.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, and occasional lifting consistent with clinical practice.
- Ability to communicate, hear, see, and feel without limitations.
- May require extended periods of computer use for documentation.
