Description

PURPOSE STATEMENT


The general duties of an employee of Bone & Joint include adherence to all policies and procedures of Bone & Joint.  As an employee of Bone & Joint, the expectation is that the employee will maintain a high degree of professionalism and ethics.  Employees will maintain strict confidentiality as dictated by HIPAA.  

      

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Perform selected nursing and administrative duties, and assist physicians as required. 
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment by escorting them from the waiting room to the exam room and taking histories and vital signs 
  • Prepare, clean and maintain exam and treatment rooms 
  • Give injections, perform EKG’S, OB/GYN exams and provide other patient care services as directed. 
  • Maintain sample closet, administer medications per physician orders and phone in pharmacy orders as directed. 
  • Prepare and maintain clinical supplies and equipment. 
  • Assist with answering the telephone, providing information as requested and screening calls to the physician 
  • Assist with scheduling tests and treatments 
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures  
  • Assist patients in setting goals for self-management, teaching them how to do self-management tasks and report abnormal findings to their physician team 
  • Collaborate with the patient, physician, and other care team members in assessing the patient’s progress toward individual health care goals 
  • Assess barriers when patient has not met treatment goals, is not following treatment plan of care, or has not kept important appointments 
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations 
  • Maintain strict confidentiality 
  • Treat staff, physicians, visitors and patients with dignity and respect 
  •  Maintain regular and predictable attendance 
  • Perform other essential duties as assigned 



Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent and current certification. 
  • LPN- graduate from an accredited school and current state license. Medical Assistant- current certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) is required or obtained within 90 days of hire. 
  • One year of medical experience in a physician’s office or equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • Current BLS required 
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care. 
  • Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. 
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions. 
  • Ability to assist in a variety of treatments and administration of medications. 
  • Ability to take vital signs. 
  • Skill in developing and maintaining clinical quality assurance. 
  • Skill in identifying and resolving problems. 
  • Ability to maintain records and record test results. 
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. 
  • Ability to use good reasoning and judgment and react calmly in an emergency situation. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients. Medical staff, coworkers and the public. 
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing. 
  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic. 
  • Proficiency in the operation of a computer keyboard. 
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic. 

      

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day. 
  • Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. 
  • Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. 
  • Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing. 
  • Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition. 
  • Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to life and/or carry up to 40 lbs. 
  • Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces. 
  • Have full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients. 
  • Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, fax machine, calculator and medical equipment. 
  • Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: near vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to focus.
