General duties and responsibilities:

  1. Monday - Friday, 8 hour day shift
  2. Reviews patient’s history and documents to make an accurate assessment.
  3. Completes nursing assessment, identifying, and documenting patient problems.
  4. Assesses nursing home patient history
  5. Check insurance with scheduling/patient accounts to where procedure can be done
  6. Check medications and follow-ups per protocol
  7. Review and obtain Advance Directives
  8. Obtain copies of medical device cards
  9. Assigns a triage priority to patients concerns based on available information 
  10. Initiates diagnostic and therapeutic measures as indicated by standing protocols
  11. Acts as a liaison with patients, family and health professionals 
  12. Coordinates the needs of the patient with supporting departments
  13. Charts concisely, descriptively to indicate patients progress or lack of progress
  14. Manages prescription refills per protocol
  15. Follow direction on Recall system
  16. Calls for or looks up test results, notifies patients of results in timely manner
  17. Sets up lab appointments
  18. Provides appropriate patient education as necessary
  19. Follows protocols for disease process
  20. Follows up on resources for patient and disease processes. Keeps physician informed
  21. Address patient phone inquiries – responds in timely manner
  22. Completes physicians’ orders per protocols
  23. Schedules testing at outside facilities
  24. Professional education – maintains knowledge base by attending mandatory and regular in-services
  25. Assists with patient referrals 
  26. Demonstrates respect and understanding of confidentiality for patients, staff and others
  27. Other duties as assigned


Guest Relations:

  1. Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior in work setting; maintains good interpersonal relationships
  2. Actively participates in the Quality Assessment program
  3. Cooperates with other departments for coordinating patient care
  4. Precepts new employees
  5. Assists in implementing unit changes
  6. Adapts in changes in assignments and workload as necessitated by staffing changes and patient volumes
  7. Cooperates with Clinic Supervisor to assure adequate staffing
  8. Keeps Clinic Supervisor informed of personnel problems

Requirements

Qualifications:

  1. Graduate of accredited school of nursing
  2. Current state license to practice as a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  3. Experience in GI endoscopy preferred.
  4. Member in GI specialty or other local, state or national professional societies encouraged.
  5. Organizational skills and attention to detail highly recommended
  6. Good listening skills
  7. Must have good attendance
  8. Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support certification

Essential Physical Demands:

  1. Position requires full range of motion, frequent, standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time
  2. Requires visual and hearing activity

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1.     Exposure to bloodborne pathogens requiring the use of universal precautions and/ or protective equipment.
  2.     Knowledgeable of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e., patient body fluids and disinfectant chemicals).
